What you need.
- Android phone
- With USB host (OTG) for USB DMX. An iPhone will not work, because iOS does not allow USB DMX without an extra licence.
- DMX interface
- A USB DMX cable with an FT232 chip, available from about 15 €, or an Art-Net interface on your network. Interfaces with an encrypted protocol are not supported.
- DMX fixtures
- Moving heads, PAR cans, lasers. You set up the fixture profiles in the app.
Questions.
Do I need the internet?
No. GrooveDMX connects to no server. Android only needs the “internet” permission for Art-Net on your own network.
Does the app record audio?
No. Audio is analysed in memory only and is never stored or transmitted.
Is there a version for the iPhone?
No. Only Android lets an app talk to a USB DMX interface without an extra licence.
Which DMX cable do I need?
One with an FT232 chip. It is the cheapest reliable cable and supported out of the box. An Art-Net interface works too.
What do Pro and Club add?
Pro adds the built-in player, AI mode and any number of fixtures. Club is for playing commercially: PIN lock, autostart, fallback show, opening hours and quick room switching.
How close is the stage demo to the app?
It recreates the looks of the app, driven by the beat alone. The app also reacts to level, sections and the limits of your fixtures.
